NASHVILLE, Tenn. ? Steven Tyler and Carrie Underwood are teaming up for a special "CMT Crossroads" the night before the Super Bowl.

"CMT Crossroads: Steven Tyler & Carrie Underwood Live From the Pepsi Super Bowl Fan Jam" will air Saturday, Feb. 4.

The Aerosmith frontman and "American Idol" judge teamed with the country music sensation and former "Idol" champion last year during the Academy of Country Music Awards. Their performance of "Undo It" and "Walk This Way" was one of the night's highlights and a viral video on the Web the next day.

They'll try to recreate that energy in front of a sold-out crowd at the Pepsi Coliseum in Indianapolis.

This is the second year "CMT Crossroads," which pairs artists from different genres, will broadcast from the Super Bowl Fan Jam.

South Carolina Primary Results by the Numbers (ContributorNetwork)

Newt Gingrich has been declared the winner of the South Carolina presidential primary. With three presidential races finished to this point, there have been three winners. Rick Santorum won the Iowa caucus. Mitt Romney was victorious in New Hampshire. Gingrich has won South Carolina. For the first time, three candidates have won the first three races.

Here's a look at the results of the South Carolina primary, by the numbers.

23: Delegates to the Republican National Convention that Gingrich earned. The delegates are based on the population of the state. Gingrich won just more than 40 percent of the vote, according to the New York Times. There are 25 delegates available from the Palmetto State.

4: Mainstream candidates on the ballot in South Carolina. For the Iowa caucus, there were eight major candidates.

46: Counties in South Carolina. Polls were open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

1.1: Percentage of votes earned by Herman Cain. Even though he dropped out of the race in early December, Cain got over 6,300 votes in South Carolina. That number would not have made a difference in the final tally.

34: Percentage of voters in South Carolina who identify themselves as having an affiliation with the tea party. A CBS News poll claimed nearly half of them supported Gingrich.

18: Percentage of voters who came to the polls. Some precincts had heavier turnouts than others, especially in large cities where Republicans do well.

243,398: Votes Gingrich won in the primary, with 99 percent of the precincts reporting. The front-runner had 75,000 votes more than second place finisher Romney.

143,224: Votes Sen. John McCain won in the 2008 primary. He won by only 15,000 votes over Mike Huckabee.

3: Counties Romney won in South Carolina. Gingrich won the rest. Romney won Charleston County, Richland County and Beaufort County. Those places include Columbia and Charleston.

167,957: Votes Romney won. He improved upon his 2008 total by more than 100,000 votes. He won nearly 28 percent in 2012 vs. 15 percent four years ago.

4: Place Rep. Ron Paul finished in South Carolina. He came in last out of the mainstream candidates. Paul is the only major candidate who hasn't won a primary election in 2012.

Physicists use ion beams to detect art forgery

University of Notre Dame nuclear physicists Philippe Collon and Michael Wiescher are using accelerated ion beams to pinpoint the age and origin of material used in pottery, painting, metalwork and other art. The results of their tests can serve as powerful forensic tools to reveal counterfeit art work, without the destruction of any sample as required in some chemical analysis.

Their research is featured on the front cover of the current issue of Physics Today in an article titled, "Accelerated ion beams for art forensics." Wiescher and Collon say, "Art experts play an important role in identifying the style, history and context of a painting, but a solid scientific basis for the proper identification and classification of a piece of art must rely on information from other sources.

"A host of approaches with origins in biology, chemistry and physics have allowed scientists and art historians not only to look below a painting's or artifact's surface, but also to analyze in detail the pigments used, investigate painting techniques and modifications done by the artist or art restorers, find trace materials that reveal ages and provenances, and more," Wiescher and Collon continue.

The information that is revealed can shed light on trading patterns, economic conditions and other details of history. For example, the amount of silver in Roman coins can indicate the degree of inflation in the ancient economy.

Laboratories in Europe, including several in Italy and one in the basement of the Louvre in Paris, have accelerators dedicated to the forensic analysis of art, and archaeological artifacts. These accelerator-based techniques have allowed not only to analyze the works themselves, but also to determine origin, trade and migration routes as well as dietary information. As an example, the analysis of the ruby eyes in a Babylonian statue of the goddess Ishtar using the Louvre's accelerator showed that the rubies came from a mine in Vietnam, demonstrating that trade occurred between those far-apart regions some 4,000 years ago.

At Notre Dame, researchers are using proton-induced x-ray emission (PIXE) and Accelerator Mass Spectroscopy (AMS) to study artifacts brought by local archeologists, Native American cultures in the American Southwest and the Snite Museum of Art extensive collection of Mezzo-American figurines.

Wiescher, the Frank M. Freimann Professor of Physics, and Collon, associate professor of physics, are using their findings to teach undergraduates. Wiescher initially developed the undergraduate physics class called Physical Methods in Art and Archaeology, and now Collon teaches the class which attracts students from nearly every major. The course covers topics such as X-ray fluorescence and X-ray absorption, proton-induced X-ray emission, neutron-induced activation analysis, radiocarbon dating, accelerator mass spectroscopy, luminescence dating, and methods of archeometry.

At the grand opening of the capacious Kreiss showroom in Miami's Design District on Tues., Jan. 10, Tracy and Alonzo Mourning, one of Miami's most grounded power couples, co-hosted along with California-based furniture czar Loren Kreiss and his adorable wife, Kate. The evening benefited Honey Shine mentoring program, which Tracy founded in 2002. And who better to guide Miami's youth than old-school parents so strict they actually enforce a no-TV-on-weekdays rule for their three kids?

"Gurl, he still has a flip phone -- and a Sidekick!" Tracy shared.

"No Twitter. No Facebook. I don't do that stuff," Alonzo added, scolding Miami Heat owner Micky Arison for spending so much time on The Twitter. "There are a lot better things he could be doing with his time." We hear ya, Zo.

The next night, Bal Harbour Shops hosted its monthly Art Nights, with art- and fashion-centric events held throughout the mall, including the opening of the new Stella McCartney boutique featuring color-blocked light box sculptures designed by artist David Batchelor. At Neiman Marcus, in the ultimate temple of temptation which was the Tom Ford boutique, Stefanie Reed, VIP Relations for Art Basel Miami Beach, and Bass Museum Executive Director Silvia Karman Cubina led the intellectual charge with a talk on Miami's thriving art scene.

Elsewhere in the mall, Miami photographer Seth Browarnik displayed his Art of the Night exhibition (we hope the genius shot of a nude Amanda Lepore playing a Lucite piano gets purchased and placed somewhere very public), as ArtNexus hosted a soiree at the Valentino boutique.

All that socializing left us famished, so we headed to South Beach to gorge on some of South Florida's best sushi at the new Bar Tanaka at the Shelborne hotel. Branzino fiends like us will appreciate the flawless branzino sashimi, served aside a block of Himalayan salt, minced shiso leaf and olive oil. Truly divine.

On Friday, The Webster boutique launched its new online store with a guest appearance by popular New York-based fashion blogger Leandra Medine of The Man Repeller. Medine styled both mannequins and guests, explaining her inspiration on one of the former:

"This one IS very Miami, that's what I said! I threw on a men's YSL tee -- I'm obsessed with tees -- and layered on necklaces, because, well, that's what I do. It's difficult to find bottoms to complement tees -- jeans can be too casual -- so I went with these resort Stella McCartney satin shorts. Then I threw on an arm party, because that's what I do." (Side note: Leandra owns the trademark to the phrase "arm party.")

On Saturday night, we attended the National Foundation for Advancement in the Arts Gala, benefiting its YoungArts program, where filmmaker/actor Robert Redford was honored, along with YoungArts alumnus artist Doug Aitken and arts supporter Robert L. Lynch. A mashup of "West Side Story" by the very talented YoungArts students opened the event at the Art Deco-era Gusman Theater -- making us wish we had stuck with our music lessons as a child -- followed by a very festive gala at Miami's JW Marriott.

A highlight was meeting legendary choreographer Bill T. Jones, an exceedingly gracious icon of modern culture, as well as snagging a transatlantic cruise on the Queen Mary at the silent auction (we discovered that signing one's name v-e-r-y s-l-o-w-l-y just before the cut-off time helps to lock out the competition). One of the chicest looks of the night went to actress and Cooking Channel "Extra Virgin" show host Debi Mazar, who wore a 1950s brown-and-black striped dress by designer Claire McCardell that she found on 1stdibs.com, paired with a vintage gold charm bracelet that was her grandmother's. Our eyes were glued on her perfectly manicured talons, which were painted a retro frosted white.

Sunday gave us more culture with an eclectic arts showcase by the 2012 grant recipients of the non-profit Citizens Interested in Arts (CIA) at the Aventura Cultural Center. We heard Broadway-destined, eight-year-old Biana Pinchuk belt out the Ethel Merman classic, "There's No Business Like Show Business," marveled at the skillful pas de deux by Kaori Fukui and Jun Tanabe of Arts Ballet Theatre of Florida, and clapped along with the bluegrass numbers by the very talented, seven-member Pursell Family, Miami's kick-heinie version of the Von Trapps.

By Monday, we were ready for some cocktail culture and got it in spades at Delano for New York entrepreneur Jason Binn's Miami birthday celebration, held at the hotel's new restaurant, Bianca. Proving that you can never take South Beach out of the (birthday) boy, the original co-founder of Ocean Drive magazine was toasted by a group of power players that took us back to the Beach, circa mid-1990s: Chris Paciello, Shareef Malnik, Nicola Siervo, Karim Masri, Rony Seikaly, Ugo Colombo, Michael Capponi, Jeff Soffer, Eric Milon, Linda and Jeffrey Chodorow, Diane and Alan Lieberman, and designer Sam Robin, who was responsible for Bianca's sleek look. Also joining Jason and his glam wife, Haley, were Pharrell, Jorge and Darlene Perez, Gigi Whitman, Dave Grutman, Lana Bernstein and our favorite instant-party couple, Fabian Basabe and wife Martina Borgomanero.

CHICAGO - Abby Wambach has been voted the U.S. Soccer Federation's female athlete of the year for the fifth time, matching Mia Hamm's record. Clint Dempsey has been voted top male athlete for the first time since 2007.

The USSF also said Friday that Brek Shea and Sydney Leroux were the top young athletes.

Wambach won previously in 2003, 2004, 2007 and last year. Hamm won from 1994 to 1998. Wambach scored four goals at the Women's World Cup, including one in the 122nd minute in the semifinals that forced penalty kicks and enabled the Americans to reach the final, where they lost to Germany.

Dempsey scored three goals at the CONCACAF Gold Cup. Playing for Fulham, he passed Brian McBride to become the highest-scoring American in the Premier League.

Online votes counted for half the total, with the rest from media and USSF representatives.

Romney and Gingrich refuse to move dueling events (AP)

GREENVILLE, S.C. ? Rival presidential candidates Mitt Romney and Newt Gingrich are set to appear at the same barbecue restaurant at the same time on the day of the South Carolina primary.

Both campaigns say they will not change schedules announced Friday that have the dueling candidates visiting Tommy's Country Ham House in Greenville at 10:45 a.m. EST.

Romney's campaign calls the scheduling a "coincidence" and says it won't change its plans.

Gingrich campaign spokesman Nathan Naidu says Gingrich's schedule came out first and that Gingrich is, in his words, "happy to have Gov. Romney join us at our event."
