Portage parks summer classes and programs | The Chronicle

The following classes and programs are offered by Portage Parks & Recreation, 2100 Willowcreek Road,

Yoga Classes

lasses are for beginners and intermediates, ages 18 and up.? Please bring a towel or mat and dress comfortably. ?All classes meet at the Yacht Club.

Rates and class times: $30 for one class a week, $35 for two classes a week, $45 for unlimited attendance per week. Monday Coed:? 6 to 7p.m., Wednesday Women:? 6 to 7pm, Thursday Coed:? 6 to 7 p.m., Saturday Coed:? 9:30 to 10:30 a.m.

Outback Trail Commission Mountain Biking

Visit www.outbacktrail.org.? Helmets are required for these free programs.? No riding if trails are wet.? Meet at the Outback West Trailhead at Imagination Glen.

Midweek Mountain Biking Madness

Meet others interested in the sport and get tips from experienced riders.? If you are new to the sport, let us help make your experience more enjoyable.? Wednesdays around 5 p.m. through September.

Friday Night Lights

Experience the added thrill of mountain biking at night.? While this event is for the more experienced rider, all are invited to check it out. Riders must have a good quality light that holds a charge for 2 hours mounted to bike or helmet. First Friday of the month through September at 8 p.m.

Steel Wheels BMX

Mark your calendars and join the BMX racing fun at Imagination Glen.? Lighted track extends racing opportunities.? Everyone is welcome to come to practices!? Helmets, elbow guards, and long pants are required.? Bikes must have pegs, chain guards and front / rear reflectors removed as well as working brakes.? Loaner bikes available for a reasonable rental fee.? Loaner helmets available at no charge.? Concessions and restrooms available. Visit www.steelwheelsbmx.com for details.?

Practice days:? Tuesdays and Fridays, 6 to 9 p.m.? Cost is $5. (Note:? Practice will NOT be moved indoors due to rain.) Race Days:? Thursdays and Saturdays, sign-ups 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Thursday fees:? $7 class/cruiser, $3 open; Saturday fees:? $10 class/cruiser, $5 open.? (Note:? Racing events will be moved indoors due to rain.)

Portage Community Market

Every Sundays through Sept. 30, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Founders? Square Park.

Portage Summer Music in the Park

Tuesdays through Aug. 28, 6 to 7:30 p.m. at Woodland Park, all concerts will be held indoors.? Concerts are free and open to the public.? Refreshments will be available for purchase.? For a complete concert schedule, visit www.ci.portage.in.us/parks .

"A Walk in the Park"

July 27 and Aug. 10, 7 to 8 p.m. at the Portage Lakefront and Riverwalk.? Meet at the pavilion. All ages welcome for this free event. Join us for a community walk around our newest Portage park.? Your guide will lead you around the park while interpreting and revealing many of its hidden treasures.? Wear walking shoes.

Fall Youth Soccer

Portage Parks? soccer program is designed to be a fun, recreational activity that emphasizes safety, sportsmanship, and skill development.? Season begins Saturday, Aug. 25 (7-weeks ? no game Labor Day weekend).? Games are held at Imagination Glen Park.?

Registration runs through July 20.? Ages 3-14. ?Cost is $40/resident $45/non-resident.? $5 off for additional siblings.? $10 late fee for any signups after July 20. Divisions are by age groups: 3-4, 5-6, 7-8, 9-10, 11-14.

Children will be placed in divisions based on their age as of Aug. 25. Children must be at least 3 and no older than 14 as of Aug. 25 in order to be eligible to participate.? Copy of birth certificate is required at signup if we do not already have it on file.

Coaches Meeting: Wednesday, Aug. 1 at 5:30 pm ? Sycamore Hall at Woodland Park

Fall Adult Softball

Season begins Aug. 12.? Games begin at 6 p.m. at Imagination Glen Park. Registration deadline is Aug. 3. The cost is $325 per team, $375 after Aug. 3.? Ages 18 and up. Games/Length: 12 games at 6-weeks

Double Headers Every Night ? League ends in single elimination tournament.

Rosters can only be picked up from Parks and Recreation office in exchange for a $100 deposit (in the form of cash, check or gift certificate).? This is the only way to secure a spot for your team.? The balance and completed roster is due by registration deadline.? If you fail to pay the balance by this deadline, the spot will be opened to other teams and your $100 deposit will not be refunded.? Any team to pay a balance after the deadline will be charged an additional $50 late fee.
