'Star Citizen' Reaches Kickstarter Goal In Six Days: Chris Roberts ...

Star Citizen Raises 1.9 Million Dollars

Star Citizen, the highly anticipated space sim from?renowned video game designer, Chris Roberts, reached the initial goal for the game?s Kickstarter campaign; taking in $540,000 in less than six days. Mr. Roberts? new development studio,?Cloud Imperium, raised a total of 1.9 million dollars to finance Star Citizen through the company?s crowd funding programs and expects to easily reach the primary objective of two million dollars.

Cloud Imperium?s Kickstarter campaign has over 12,000 backers, proving once again that crowd funding is a viable means of?raising?money to develop a high end?computer?game.?Several?big?name projects managed to raise over three million?dollars?via Kickstarter and many smaller games have come into existence thanks to the?generosity?of?donors.

Roberts has also been using his?Cloud Imperium website to finance his project and more than 15,000 additional gamers donated another 1.3 million dollars get Star Citizen off the launch pad and into the darkest regions of the cosmos. The initial?response?was so overwhelming that the?Cloud Imperium?website crashed and remained offline for several days; prompting?Roberts?to turn to the experience and?know how?of Kickstarter to raise capital for his new game.

Speaking today about the success of Star Citizen?s fund raising, Chris expressed his ambition to revitalize the PC gaming?genre?and welcomed gamers to?continue supporting?his project:

?The amount of support from our fans has been overwhelming. We had a few hiccups on our own site in the first week of operation, which led us to open up the Kickstarter page. Kickstarter provided better scalability for us and additional options for our fans. In the end, this is all about breathing new life into the PC games business. PC gamers have been left on the sidelines for the last few years. I want to utilize all the new technology that a PC can provide and bring space sims back into the modern area with a bang.?

?Getting back into gaming is something I?ve been thinking about for several years. With all the new tech, it?s a whole different universe for developers and I?m ready to take the welcomed plunge again. All I can say is that I?m having a blast doing this. With all these backers and pledges and the team?we?ve?assembled, we can and will raise the bar to a different stratosphere for PC gamers and space sims.?

?There?s still plenty of time to pledge if you haven?t done that already. Both our site and the Kickstarter site continue to take pledges and will do that into the middle of next month.?

Are you among the thousands of gamers who can?t wait to play Star Citizen? Do you think crowd funding is a good way to finance a new video game and would you be willing to donate to a Kickstarter campaign?
