Boost Mobile Cell Phones and Celebrity Endorsements : Communications

Boost Mobile Cell Phones and Celebrity Endorsements

Article by William Gold

What do Jermaine Dupri, Young Jeezy and Mickey Avalon all have in common? They all endorse Boost Mobile Cell Phones. In fact, all three are featured in a Boost Mobile Cell Phones commercial together. Their commercial is the Anthem 2.0 commercial that came out in 2007. However, the 2004 original anthem commercial came out in 2004 and it featured the Ludacris, The Game and Kanye West. Boost Mobile has certainly targeted the younger phone users and with such an array of hip-hop talent appearing in just two commercials, it appears to be working well.

Jermaine Dupri is most famous for his production work, he produced for the Anthem 2.0 commercial, and less for his rapping skills though he rapped on the track as well. Young Jeezy is a gangster rapper hailing from Atlanta, Georgia and is most famous for hits such as ?I Luv It? and ?Love In This Club? which is an Usher song Jeezy was featured on. Finally there is Mickey Avalon, an underground rapper from Hollywood who is also part of a group rappers known as the Dyslexic Speedreaders.

The rappers Kanye West, The Game and Ludacris are quite a diverse group as well. Kanye West is also a producer and rapper from Chicago, Illinois and is famous for the controversies which he has sparked. The Game is west coast gangster rapper who is famous for being part of G-Unit but has since severed those ties and become famous as a solo artist. Finally Ludacris is the Atlanta rap artist who has dominated the charts for the last decade.

Although popular music still has a broad range, including many popular rock, pop and country acts, it is not surprising to see Boost Mobile focus on the hip-hop community. The community, much like the acts in the commercials, continue to diversify attracting a larger audience. Hip-Hop producers now work with more pop acts and even rock acts. Take for example, Black Roq, a new group featuring the guys from the Black Keys playing with rappers such as Mos Def and Q-Tip. And now pop singer are enlisting rap stars to be featured on many radio hit songs. It is clear that rap and hip-hop continue to grow as genres and expect them to continue to expand their reaches. So, there may come a day when a company is not focused on the younger community, rather they are focused on the community as a whole. Yes, Hip-Hop and rap do have the potential to get that big.
